Edison "Jerry" Dean Underwood

Edison "Jerry" Dean Underwood, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17th, 2026, at Wetzel County Hospital.

Son of the late Russell and Hattie Cork Underwood, Jerry was born October 16th, 1937, in Doddridge County, WV, Jerry was a cherished resident of Sistersville, WV, where he spent the majority of his life surrounded by family and friends.

Jerry was a dedicated and hardworking man, having spent his career at the sawmill owned by Carse Swiger. He went on to work for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) in Doddridge County until retiring from the Tyler County Senior Citizens, years later. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and community. He was a devoted Christian, attending Elk Lick Church of God, then later attending Paden City Church of God under Abe Cowgill and Joyce Hill. He loved gospel music sung by Jim Housan, hunting, attending auction sales, and farming, which he dreamed of returning to one day. You also could always find him drinking a Pepsi, his favorite drink. A proud veteran, Jerry served his country honorably in the United States Army Guided Missile and the Army Reserves, embodying the values of service and sacrifice throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and getting to attend their sporting events and activities when he could.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta "Bertie" O'Neil; grandson, Troy Scott McNemar; sister, Artie Seckman; and brother, Denzil Cork; and son-in-law Robert Davis.

Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Virginia "Ginger" Lee Underwood; daughters, Hattie Williams, Loretta Lynn Underwood (Roger Blake), and Donna 'Dee' Davis; sons, James 'Chris' Underwood (Madonna), and Russell Underwood (Andrea). He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Jerry's life will be celebrated and remembered by all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

Funeral Service will take place Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Myers Funeral Home, beginning at 12:00 PM with Pastor Abe Cowgill and Joyce Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home on Monday, April 20, 2026.
