Linda Lou Groves of Friendly, West Virginia, 89, died at her home October 31, 2026. She was born in Friendly, West Virginia October 25, 1937 and was the youngest of two daughters of Charles Sherman Buchanan and Jessie Pauline Buchanan.
A graduate of Sistersville High School and Mountain State College, she married Gary Lee Groves March 25, 1961 at the Bens Run Church of Christ. Ralph Hanlon, the bridegroom's uncle, officiated the double-ring ceremony.
During her long professional career, she worked as a secretary at Union Carbide while still a student at Mountain State College, then, after graduating, she was hired at Union Carbide in Friendly, now known as Momentive Performance Materials. It was there that she met her future husband, and after the birth of her two children, Cynthia in 1963 and Gary Lee Jr. in 1964, she spent the next 16 years away from the official workforce, though she made extra income decorating cakes for people in the area.
In 1979 she was hired as a receptionist at Sistersville General Hospital, then worked her way up to the Director of Medical Records, a position she held for many years. She retired in 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and is survived by her two children, her older sister, Estella Buchanan (Goodfellow) as well as many members of Estella's extended family.
Special thank you to Josie Herrick for her comforting assistance in Linda's final days.
Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Myers Funeral Home in Sistersville, West Virginia. As per Linda's wishes, no memorial service will be held, but a graveside service will occur at Friendly Cemetery.
