Richard R “Johnny” Johnson, Jr., 83, of Paden City, WV, passed away July 20, 2026. He was born September 30, 1942, in New Martinsville, WV to the late Richard and Avis Johnson.
Johnny was a member of the Paden City Christian Church were he formerly served as a deacon. He was a past member and treasurer of the Paden City Jaycee’s. He served on the Paden City Park and Pool commission, Boy Scout Troop leader and member of the Paden City American Legion for over 50 years.
Johnny was a proud Navy veteran where he served as a Radarman aboard several ships, including the USS Essex and USS Lake Champlain. He also served as an Armed Forces police officer during his military service. He worked for Corning Glass in the maintenance department and retired from New Martinsville Health Care Center.
He loved collecting model trains and Hot Wheels. He loved woodworking, especially building wooden planes that he gave to many to enjoy.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife Cheri, to whom he had been married to for 58 years, his son James (Elizabeth) Johnson, granddaughter, Sara Johnson and brother, Jerry Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Scott Johnson, Brother, Charles “Slick” Johnson, sister Shirley Farmsworth , two brothers-in-law, Tom Sing and Virgil Stewart and 2 sisters-in-law Cathy Sing and Eileen Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at the Paden City Christian Church, 105 East Main Street, Paden City, WV 26159, on Tuesday July 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with Elder Brent Croasmun officiating. Burial will follow at Paden Memorial Garden with military honors. Visitation will be Monday, July 27, 2026,at Myers Funeral Home in Sistersville, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, and 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
