Steven Allan Light, 69, passed away at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital on February 4, 2026, after a short but horrendous battle with liver cancer.
He was a lifelong resident of Sistersville, WV, born to Nancy Light (Long); and raised by his grandparents, Earnest N., and Mary Louise Light.
He was extremely proud to be a West Virginia Coal Miner for almost 40 years, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Union for even longer. He loved being a coal miner and working with his many union brothers over the years, it was just the actual work itself he was not so fond of.
An avid West Virginia Mountaineer football fan, Steve spent many a Saturday in Morgantown at a game or pacing back and forth at home with his headphones on either rooting or cussing his Mounties. He would like it to be known that his favorite West Virginia game of all time was the 2012 Orange Bowl when the Mountaineers won over Clemson, 70-33 (a game he replayed hundreds of times over the years). “Dana over Dabo!”
He was also a lifetime fan of Friday night high school football, rarely missing a game, local or away. Having dedicated so much of his life to work and family, he did not have many outside interests or hobbies to fall back on when he retired. So with the help of his son and wife, he learned to play online video games and became a “gamer”, so to speak. He enjoyed golf, soccer, baseball and RPG games, especially Skyrim, Assassins Creed, ARK, Fable, Red Dead Redemption, and Overlord. He certainly enjoyed creating different characters and dressing them for the “shock” value of other players. He always had a picture of his latest “fashionable character” on his phone. Steve Light was the best of men among men. A friend to one and all, without a single enemy in the world. He was a family man and a most excellent dad to his kids all their lives. He was a good big brother and a fun brother-in-law and uncle. He was his mother-in-laws favorite son-in-law. His friends easily count in the thousands, because if you knew him, you liked him. That’s just how he was.
He has deeply grieved many friends and family who have passed away in his lifetime, including his mother and grandparents, his aunt Mary Jane and uncles Bud Light and Gene Smith; and his son Jacob Leroy Light. Also preceding him to the great beyond were his brother Wayne, nieces Kristen and Mary Beth and nephew Ben; cousins Buddy and Beth Ann; his mother-in-law, Edith, brother-in-laws Pee Wee and Fido, and sister-in-law, Sharon.
Also not forgetting the importance his dogs have had in his life (which are honestly to many over the years to name individually), but he both loved them and swore at them daily. True love. Left to live this life without him now is a large extended family who will remember him forever including his wife of 51 years, Judy. His kids, Adam Light (Aiko); Sheena Hubbard (Zachary); and Taylor Headley. His grandchildren, Sierra and Samuel Light and Zoey Hubbard. He leaves behind his aunt Sally Smith; two brothers, Richard Long (Jackie) and Bobby Long; and one sister, Jane Conley; cousins, Lynn, Julie and Barry; in-laws, Don Billings, Dave Billings (Sandra), Ken Billings (Bessie), and Bobbie Jo Billings.
Steve thought the world of each one of his nieces and nephews and insisted they be listed here because they were all important to him and they will miss him too: Kurt, Ashley, Macie, Ryan, Matthew, Samantha, Elizabeth, Jace, Morgan, Phillip, Crystal, Amber, Dani, Erin, Alexis, Trace, Cassidy, Judd, Shelby and Spencer; also, 11 great-nephews and 10 great-nieces are left behind to never get to know him better.
Steve Light liked to travel, shop, practice his Bigfoot yell, and watch Taylor Swift and Black Pink concerts on TV. He liked roller coasters, Dum Dum suckers, sleeping till noon and vacationing in Hawaii. He loved his life and fought so very hard to stay among his loved ones.
He did not like to dress up, however, and has requested that anyone stopping to say their goodbyes or visit Myers Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 2 – 7 p.m. or Friday, Feb. 13 at noon to feel free to wear their West Virginia Blue and Gold (jerseys preferred), and ball caps. Darryll Mayfield will conduct the service on Friday.
